Biography

With a Master of Music in piano performance from the University of Utah, Hana Janatová has actively taught the art of playing the piano for over thirty-five years. A strong supporter and advocate of the arts, Hana believes that education in music and the fine arts is an inherent right and not a privilege.

Prior to relocating to Hawaii, Hana served as director of the Tucson Parks and Recreation piano program in Tucson Arizona; developed a piano lab program at East High School for the Youth Enrichment Foundation in Salt Lake City, Utah, and taught group piano at the University of Utah. In 2006, Hana founded the Mundi Project, a 501 (C)(3) organization whose mission is to enrich communities by providing access to pianos, music education, and innovative performance. In 2015, she created a community-based music program, Harmony Hub. To this day, three Harmony Hubs provided free music instruction in piano, classical guitar, voice, and ukelele to residents along the Wasatch Front.

A recipient of a Yamaha Fellowship from the College Music Society (2011) for her work with the Mundi Project, Hana received Leadership Management Certification from the Nonprofit Academy of Excellence (University of Utah, 2012), and is a certified change leader through the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. Between 2016-2020, Hana served as the Arts Awareness and Advocacy Chair for the Utah Music Teachers Association State Board.

For over 40 years, Hana has performed as a collaborative pianist and accompanist with instrumentalists and choral groups. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, and exploring the outdoors.
