Quartet 3.5K Benefit Recital

Please join us for Benefit Recital with Quartet 3.5K on Saturday, April 10 at 7:30PM online. The recital is to raise funds for the HMTA Music Scholarship Fund, for students impacted by Covid-19.

ABOUT QUARTET 3.5K

Kiwon Kim, Violin
Violinist Kiwon Kim, a native of South Korea, began studying violin at the age of 6. She had her solo debut with the Korean Philharmonic Orchestra when she was 9 years old. In addition, she has performed solos with the Seoul National Symphony Orchestra and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She was selected for the prestigious Kumho Young Artist concert series, which led to her solo recital performance at Kumho art hall. She has performed in various music festivals around the world, including Great Mountains Music Festival, Miami Music Festival, and the Tanglewood Music Center. As an active chamber musician, she has performed with the Nine Chamber Music Society in Korea.

Kiwon holds a Bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University in Korea. She went on to earn her Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music and her Graduate Performance Diploma at Peabody Conservatory under full scholarships. Kiwon joined the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra in September of 2018. Prior to joining the HSO, she has performed with the Annapolis Symphony and Charleston Symphony. She has also served as the Principal Violin of the Seocho Philharmoniker Orchestra.


Yuseon Nam, Violin
Dr. Yuseon Nam has quickly made a positive impact on the musical community of Hawaii since her arrival in the fall of 2017. She is a full-time member of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, and also maintains a large private studio. She teaches lessons at `Iolani School, and is the current Vice President of the Hawaii Music Teachers Association. 

Dr. Nam did her undergraduate studies at the Indiana University where she received her bachelors and masters degrees, studying with Ik-Hwan Bae. Dr. Nam completed her doctoral degree at the Eastman School, studying with Federico Agostini. She was Professor Agostini’s teaching assistant, and also taught violin courses at the University of Rochester. 

Dr. Nam is an active soloist and chamber musician. She has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and has been featured at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Dr. Nam has been a prizewinner in numerous competitions, and has performed as a soloist with orchestras across the world. 


Michael Lim, Viola
Michael Lim is a dedicated music teacher and professional violinist. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai’i, he began his musical career at the age of four with the piano, and started his violin studies at the age of seven. A graduate of Punahou School, Michael was involved in Punahou’s orchestra and string quartet program, and was a part of the Hawai’i Youth Symphony. He is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he received his Bachelors and Masters of Music in violin performance. After returning to Hawai’i, he completed his Post-Baccalaureate Certificate of Music Education at the University of Hawai’i Manoa, and currently teaches orchestra and choir in grades 6-12 at Mid Pacific. In addition to his music teaching career, Michael is also a full-time member of the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra violin section, teaches private violin and viola lessons, and is the current president of the Hawai’i Music Educators Association. He is a passionate educator and performer, and hopes to share his love of music with his students and inspire a new generation of musicians to cherish and preserve the art of music.


Sung Chan Chang, Cello
Sung Chan Chang started playing the cello when he was 7 years old. He was accepted to the Seoul Ye-Won Art School with prestigious honors in 2001, and the Juilliard Pre-College as a scholarship student in 2002. He graduated from The Korean National University of Arts with the Bachelor of Music degree in 2008, The Juilliard School with the Master of Music degree in 2010, Yale University with the Artist Diploma degree in 2012, Northwestern University with the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2020, and is currently serving as Associate Principal cellist at Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

  • A short statement explaining how Covid-19 has impacted your family

  • Amount requested and purpose
